A Colorado Vacation House Micro-Wedding Package

Their Story:  “We met online and we instantly connected because of our love for dogs. He had a Golden Retriever and I had a Husky/Golden mix. Michael works in tech and we are relocating this summer to California from Dallas for his work. We decided to do a small Colorado wedding as we both love the beauty of Colorado and the timing of our ideal wedding date didn't allow for the planning of a larger wedding.”

If you're considering a micro wedding in the scenic Colorado mountains, you're in for a treat. Using inspiration from Natalie & Michael's wedding will help you design a breathtaking event at a family vacation house in this picturesque location.   Here are some steps to planning a great vacation home micro-wedding: 
  1. Ceremony at the Vacation House, Dinner Out on the Town.  Like Natalie and Michael, you don't have to do EVERYTHIG at the vacation house.  You can opt to host your ceremony at the family vacation house and then take your guests out to a local restaurant for dinner. This approach keeps things simple and allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.  Alternately, you could have the cermeony off-site as a scenic breataking spot, and then return to the vacation house where a personal chef awaits with prepared appetizer and meal. 
  3. Keep Decorations Minimal.  With the natural beauty of the Colorado mountains, you don't need much in the way of decorations. Simple floral arrangements and a few personal touches can enhance the ambiance without overwhelming it.  And, often vacation houses and restauarant boast attractive ambiance, so you really don't have to do much for decorations. 
  4. Ensure Adequate Parking & Seating.  Make sure there's enough parking for your guests. If the vacation house has limited parking, consider arranging a shuttle service from a nearby location.  Many vacation homes will have a great room in which guests can sit and watch the cermeony in front of a fireplace.  But, if there is a lawn out back, you can have Custom Weddings of Colorado setup their wooden benches for guest comfort.  
Finally, whether or not you are utlizing a family vacation home, or reserving one off popular sites like AirBNB or VRBO, get approval FIRST (before booking) and in WRITING from the homeowner that it is okay to host a ceremony and/or dinner at the house.  Be honest with the number of guests and if you plan on any furniture movement (we recommend you don't move furniture).  That way, you won't run the risk of breaking an rules or losing out on any deposits. 
Natalie and Michael's wedding at a family member's vacation house in Keystone, Colorado, is a perfect example of how magical a micro wedding can be:
  • Preparation: They stayed at the vacation house and got ready with five friends. Hair and makeup were done on-site. This enabled Natalie to be surrounded by her best friends, but without the drama of having bridesmaids.  Her friends then became guests and got to enjoy the ceremony.  
  • Guest Arrival: Guests arrived half an hour before the ceremony, enjoyed music and a wine service before they were escorted to the back patio fo rthe cermeony to begin. 
  • Ceremony Setup: Benches were set up on the back patio, creating a cozy and intimate space.  This provided some shelter too for the afternoon storm that popped-up, and yet kept everyone warm. 
  • ​Ceremony: Natalie was escorted by her dad to an instrumental version of "Annie's Song" by John Denver. The ceremony was both beautiful and emotional.
  • Post-Ceremony: The couple did group photos while guests enjoyed a cocktail half-hour with wine and beer.
  • Reception: Guests headed to a restaurant in Breckenridge while the couple finished their photo session. Upon arrival, they had a short speech, cut the cake, and enjoyed a delightful dinner.
