Emily + Neil:  a small micro-wedding within an hour from Denver

Their Story:  “We want to get remarried to each other, forever this time.”  Yes, we work with many couples getting married the second+ time.  And occasionally we have a couple that re-marries each other…. again - true love!  “I’m an artist with an easygoing artist personality. Neil is an engineer. We are completely the opposite. Probably why we got divorced. I think Neil has finally figured out my free spirited personality! We’ve decided to go to Colorado to re-marry!!! I’m thinking Mountain View’s with water in the background!!! Beautiful landscapes. Also if there is still snow caps.…I’m all for that in the pictures. I’m super excited!”

Wedding Details: originally Emily and Neil, who are from Alabama and Georgia, had settled on getting married at Blue Lake which is south of Breckenridge.  Blue Lake is quite a rugged destination to get to and it is more “rogue” - in our terms, that means there is no official booking of it.  You simply show up, pick a spot, stand around and exchange vows.  It is a highly trafficked trailhead with hikers, campers and fishing - for some, that is okay.  But after giving it more thought, they decided they would rather be closer to Denver/Colorado Springs where they have close family.

For unique geography, they decided on Roxborough State Park for their small intimate wedding package of 12 guests.  They found a vacation house in Littleton, Colorado (a suburb outside of Denver) for their lodging in which everyone stayed.  For the ceremony, even though the site is a good 10 to 15 minute easy walk on a wide crushed gravel trail, the Rangers do have a golf cart to transport the bride and/or other guests who have mobility challenges.

Since a blue Larkspur, a wildflower often found in Colorado, has a special meaning to her, we used it for floral and cake design inspiration.  Other florals we mixed in roses and other Colorado wildflowers with pinks, blue and purples with accent colors of white, yellow and peaches.  We always bring matching florals to decorate the cake which had gold foil to reflect Emily’s glamorous side.

Tips and Ideas:  For getting married at a State Park, or any public lands like National Parks and National  Forests, know that though you can reserve a spot, it does have to remain open to the public (tax payers.  Read through their regulations.  Most of them will be similar such as.….
  • Stay on the trail
  • Pets have to stay on trails (RMNP does not allow pets)
  • Drones are not permitted
  • No stakes in the ground, not tenting, and no affixing anything to trees, posts, etc.
  • Some public lands allow seating; others do not
  • Some public lands allow a sidewalk sign; others do not
  • If laying music, limit the volume to 60 decibels
  • Plan for vehicles to pay entrance fees
These are also great policies on any kind of natural lands and environments.  If you are interested in a beautiful, all-inclusive micro-wedding package in Colorado, reach out to Wendee..  She can get you started with a customized ceremony site report, which is a written consultation, of various natural and private spots that are very affordable and also accommodate your needs, vision, and priorities.  This is a great way to get started planning a Colorado micro-wedding.   🎉

    About Wendee

I've been planning weddings since 1995 when I moved to Colorado from Iowa.  I cut my teeth at Keystone Resort in their wedding department, then ventured on to planning corporate meetings.  But, I kept helping friends, and their friends with weddings, eventually starting my first full-service company in 2002 (yes - planned the big overwhelming ones).  In 2012 with the birth of my son, values shifted and I decided to "go small" with intimate and meaningful micro-weddings  Please connect with me to  make your dreamy, simple mountain wedding come true!

    Behind the Scenes

Ever wonder what goes on behind-the-scenes of a micro-wedding day?  Jaime L. Barba, one of our talented professional photographers, captured me at work from one of our May 2023 weddings in Boulder, Colorado.  Enjoy! .... and yes, she does wedding-day content creation (a great alternative if you cannot afford videography) for couples as well as photography.

    Content Creation

What is a wedding day content creator?  It’s someone who is there on your wedding day taking pictures on a cell phone (or in Jaime's case, her professional equipement), documenting behind-the-scenes moments, capturing and telling stories, and delivering short-form media content of your wedding day in real-time.  Checkout one from our  September 2023 weddings  ⬇️.
