Jennifer + Caleb:  creative with micro-wedding day timing & sequencing

Their Story:  “Caleb and I met in Arkansas (we are both from that state). We both worked at the same restaurant for a couple years, and then Caleb decided to ask me out one day.  I moved to Colorado in 2017 with the help of Caleb and we have made this our home ever since with our lovable cat. We love to hike, backpack, snowboard, camp, go off-roading with friends, and spend time in nature any way we can. We knew we wanted to get married in Colorado because this place holds such a special place in our hearts and we also wanted to share the gorgeous mountain views with our wedding guests. We wanted a small wedding always because we are not big on being the center of attention and we wanted a more intimate ceremony with people we care about."

Wedding Details:   We started working with Jennifer and Cable about seven months in advance of their wedding when the reached out to us through our ceremony site report services, which is a written consultation with detailed information about site options that will work with couple’s vision, budget, needs and priorities.  They identified their top priorities as having great photography with mountain landscapes, close family and friends in attendance, a nice meal with their guests, their friend to officiate, seating and for her dad to walk her down the aisle.  Check, check and check - we got it covered and see their photos below ⬇️ 🎉

Jennifer and Caleb chose to exchange vows at Sapphire Point Overlook in Summit County.  When it came time to book the site, which is all online (read this article about planning a Sapphrie Point wedding) it was a challenge and they did not get their preferred time slot, but they were able to book the 6pm to 8pm time slot.  Because in September the sun sets around 7:00 pm, we creatively moved some elements around on their agenda.  They had a first-look and met their family and friends at the shores of nearby Lake Dillon where we all gathered, cut the cake, popped bubbly and did family group photos.  Eat dessert and champagne first (oh yes!)  🥂  This way, there was enough lighting for their 6pm ceremony at Sapphire Point.  So, when planning weddings, it is a great idea to be flexible with how the day unfolds and focus on what matters most:  spending quality time with those closest in your lives.

If you are interested in a scenic, all inclusive micro-wedding package in Breckenridge, reach out to Wendee.  She can get you started with a customized ceremony site report, which is a written consultation of various natural and private spots that are customized to your needs, budget, vision, and priorities.  This is a great way to get started planning a Colorado small wedding.   🎉

Tips and Ideas:  Planning a micro-wedding doesn’t mean it comes without challenges.  There are still logistics to consider.  But don't worry, with some flexibility in timing and sequencing, you can still have the wedding of your dreams and make it unforgettable.
  • Time of Day:  be open to different times of day.  With smaller weddings, you have the flexibility of having your wedding at different times of the day. You can have a brunch wedding, a late afternoon ceremony, or an evening ceremony.
  • Simplify your ceremony: With a micro-wedding wedding, you can get creative with your ceremony. You can eliminate some of the traditional elements such as the unity candle or sand ceremony. You can also opt for a non-traditional ceremony such as an intimate elopement or a backyard wedding.  But, you can still have those traditional elements like walking-in with your dad/parent.
  • Use the space creatively:  With fewer guests, you can use the space creatively to make it more intimate and personal. Consider a circle or semi-circle seating arrangement for your guests rather than traditional rows.  You can also have a standing ceremony.  When you keep it simple, standing ceremonies lead to more intimacy (and cost savings!)
  • Mix-up the sequencing:  traditionally, couples will have the wedding, do group photos and go to the restaurant, have a toast, sit for dinner and then do cake cutting and dancing.  With micro-weddings and shorter vendor/photographer services (to make it affordable), you can mix up that sequencing.  You can have dances and champagne right after the ceremony.  Or in Jennifer and Caleb’s case with not having access to the ceremony site until later in they day, you can do all the group photos and eat-dessert-first before the ceremony.  Consult with Wendee or your local planner for the best logistical plans.
If you are interested in a beautiful, all inclusive micro-wedding package in Colorado, or need any consulting with logistics, reach out to Wendee.  She can get you started with a customized ceremony site report, which is a written consultation, of various natural and private spots that are very affordable and also accommodate your needs, vision, and priorities.  This is a great way to get started planning a Colorado micro-wedding.   🎉

    About Wendee

I've been planning weddings since 1995 when I moved to Colorado from Iowa.  I cut my teeth at Keystone Resort in their wedding department, then ventured on to planning corporate meetings.  But, I kept helping friends, and their friends with weddings, eventually starting my first full-service company in 2002 (yes - planned the big overwhelming ones).  In 2012 with the birth of my son, values shifted and I decided to "go small" with intimate and meaningful micro-weddings  Please connect with me to  make your dreamy, simple mountain wedding come true!

    Behind the Scenes

Ever wonder what goes on behind-the-scenes of a micro-wedding day?  Jaime L. Barba, one of our talented professional photographers, captured me at work from one of our May 2023 weddings in Boulder, Colorado.  Enjoy! .... and yes, she does wedding-day content creation (a great alternative if you cannot afford videography) for couples as well as photography.

    Content Creation

What is a wedding day content creator?  It’s someone who is there on your wedding day taking pictures on a cell phone (or in Jaime's case, her professional equipement), documenting behind-the-scenes moments, capturing and telling stories, and delivering short-form media content of your wedding day in real-time.  Checkout one from our  September 2023 weddings  ⬇️.
