Is an outfit change necessary? Nope.  It is fun though.

While many of our couples shy away from dress changes due to tight timelines on the wedding day, there are ways to add style and personality to your attire without doing a dress change.  Say goodbye to the notion of large, goofy gowns and hello to elegant bohemian styled dresses that effortlessly transitions from ceremony to celebration..... and you'll still feel comfortable at dining in a restaurant with sleek comfort.  Not only do shawls, capes and furs atop your dress add a touch of glamour, in chilly mountain air (yes, even in the summer) you'll appreciate the extra warmth they provide.  The hours may fly by in a whirlwind, but these couples are determined to make every precious moment count, choosing to share unforgettable experiences with their guests rather than worrying about those precious 15 to 20 minutes needed for a quick outfit change. It's time to celebrate in style and let the magic unfold!  So no, you don't have to do a dress change: most of our couples embrace the opportunity to revel in their amazing dresses for the entire duration of their special day.

Why have an attire change?

  • You love 2 dresses!  Oh, the dilemma of choosing between two stunning dresses! But fear not, for an attire change during your micro-wedding is the perfect solution to have the best of both worlds. Imagine the joy of flaunting both dresses you adore and unleashing your inner fashionista.  Having a dress change is a chance to showcase you style versatility and add an extra element of surprise to the celebration. Who wouldn't want to stun their guests with a completely different look?
  • You want to dance with freedom and/or be more comfortable.  Iif you're planning to cut-a-rug and dance your heart out without worrying about ruining your formal gown, then it's time to bring on the party attire! Embrace the freedom and versatility that and dress change brings:  go from ball gown tripping hazard with a heavy bustle to knee-length party dress in which you cut a rug! Additionally, a dress change allows for more comfort and freedom of movement throughout the rest of your wedding day. Whether they want to bust out some epic dance moves or simply relax and mingle with their loved ones, a change of attire can offer the perfect balance between elegance and practicality.
  • You don't want the attention at a restaurant.  Finally, you know how sometimes our beautiful brides don't want to wear a classic wedding dress to a fancy restaurant? Well, let's just say it's all about being discreet - no need to draw unnecessary attention to themselves! Donning a more subtle but equally fabulous outfit allows them you blend seamlessly into their surroundings.. Who needs a traditional wedding dress when you can be a fashion-forward undercover bride at your favorite restaurant?

A real micro-wedding attire change story

While some couples prefer to stick to one outfit, we've got a daring duo who decided to spice things up with an outfit change. Picture this: a Star Wars styled wedding on none other than May the 4th, with a bride who couldn't decide between a white or black dress. With only 21 guests in attendance, the stage was set for a creative celebration! After the heartfelt ceremony, the wedding party headed back to the vacation house for a scrumptious personal chef dinner. And that's when things got interesting. Our daring bride snuck off to the bathroom, emerging some time later in a totally different outfit - a black dress, no less! Can you imagine the look of surprise on her groom's face? Who needs mundane outfits when you can have all the drama of a surprise dress change?

When is the right time to do a dress change?

When it comes to the right time for a dress change on you wedding day, it is generally recommended to plan it  after the ceremony and before the dinner.  Usually, we plan the wedding day flow for the couple, after formal photos, to do weddings alone with the photographer and while the guests caravan ahead to the restaurant.  This allows the bride to make an entrance in her "reception", even though it may be at a restaurant.  And, the bride gets to dine in comfortable clothes.  Changing from gown to party attire also gives the couple a chance to aligns with the atmosphere of the restaurant and/or any other specific activities (bowling anyone?).

Timing-wise, it's important to plan enough time for the change without causing a delay in the schedule.  This can vary depending on the complexity of the dress (Do you have an inner corset? Are there lots of buttons?) and the assistance available for the change (will you have an onsite coordinator or MOH?). It's recommended to allot around 15-30 minutes for the dress change, although it can be done more efficiently with professional help if the dress is a simple zip-on, zip-off design.

Remember, each wedding is unique, so it's important to discuss and coordinate any attire change with your wedding planner who can assist with logistics (where?) and timing (when?), photographer, and anyone else involved in the schedule to ensure a smooth transition.
Let's not forget the joy of wearing multiple exquisite dresses and indulging in the sheer glamour of it all. After all, why settle for just one fabulous gown when you can have two or three? So, let the dress changes commence and let the wedding fashion show begin!

    Your Micro-Wedding Planner

I've been planning weddings since 1995 when I moved to Colorado from Iowa.  I cut my teeth at Keystone Resort in their wedding department, then then ventured on to planning corporate meetings.  But, I kept helping friends and their friends with weddings starting my first full-service company in 2002 (yes - planned the big overwhelming ones).  In 2012 with the birth of my son, values shifted and I decided to go small, intimate and meaningful.  Please connect with me to  make your dreamy, simple mountain wedding come true!

Behind the Scenes of a Micro-Wedding

Ever wonder what goes on behind-the-scenes of a micro-wedding day?  Jaime L. Barba, one of our talented professional photographers, captured me at work ⬇️  from one of our May 2023 weddings in Boulder, Colorado.  Enjoy! .... and yes, she does wedding day content creation (a great alternative if you cannot afford videography) for couples as well as photography.

    Wedding Day Content Creator

What is a wedding day content creator?  It’s someone who is there on your wedding day taking pictures on a cell phone (or in Jaime's case, her professional equipement), documenting behind-the-scenes moments, capturing and telling stories, and delivering short-form media content of your wedding day in real-time.  Checkout one from our September 2023 weddings  ⬇️.
